Hammerheads win Beerfoot in all Naples final
The host club, the Naples Hammerheads, finished atop the tables this year for the first time since 2008. Overcoming many obstacles and talented teams to reach the final, the Naples Hammerheads and the Naples "Fuzzy Bears"--a motley crew of former Naples Bears high school standouts, fittingly reached the final on the 10th anniversary of the Beerfoot 7s tournament. The Fuzzy Bears displayed their characteristic and seemingly insurmountable amounts of athleticism and speed, but the men from Naples had too much size and chemistry. The Hammerheads, who have several Naples Bear alumni themselves, hung on for a dramatic 1 try victory in an exciting final match of the day. The post match display of appreciation from both sides featured Hammerhead legends, past, present, and future in what was an important showcase of the growth of Hammerhead rugby and rugby in all of Southwest Florida. The tournament victory comes fresh on the heels of a very successful 15s season in which Naples traveled deep into the USA D2 National Playoffs, finishing 9th in the country.
Beerfoot or Barefoot?
The Barefoot moniker has been removed from its throne of lies once and for all! Long live Beerfoot!
